Quiet Walker Lodge Dubuque Iowa

Quiet Walker Lodge Bed and Breakfast

About Us

In 2008 new owners acquired the former bed and breakfast located on the property, and re-opened it as Quiet Walker Lodge Bed and Breakfast Inn a few months later. After remodeling the rooms and performing some extensive maintenance to the exterior of the thirty year old lodge, our first customers arrived in August of that year. A revitalized Dubuque bed and breakfast was ready for our guests, and did they come! Our guests soon discovered that we were the perfect spot for a romantic weekend, anniversary getaways and honeymoon needs, and for just plain relaxing and enjoying nature at a secluded Iowa B & B.

“Phenomenal! First experience at a B&B, not sure it can be topped!”

My husband and I had never stayed in a bed and breakfast before but after reading many great reviews, decided to book a 2 night stay at the Quiet Walker Lodge. The location is beautiful, serene and relaxing but still very close to many points of interest around Dubuque. The Innkeepers Kathy and Phil excellent hosts who prepared delicious breakfasts we could barely finish! There were also various selections of wine to purchase from local wineries picked by Phil we indulged in. Delish! They had many personal recommendations and brochures of attractions in the area that kept us entertained during our visit to the area. Very friendly to talk with and very very accommodating to any of our needs. The pictures on the QWL website only show a glimpse of how beautiful the rooms and grounds actually are. Do yourself a favor and plan to stay at this bed and breakfast when planning a trip to the area. Clean, beautiful, relaxing, wonderful atmosphere and excellent food-not much more you could want! We will be returning again!

We have been to many B&B's throughout the states, and this place is the best! What a wonderful place to rest and relax, and lots to do as well! We can't wait to go back! Our schedule consisted of waking to eat wonderful breakfasts, going on a bike ride on Heritage trail, coming back to rest in the peaceful surroundings of Quiet Walker Lodge, going into Dubuque for something fun to do, having a great dinner, then coming back to relax again by the fire, and taking a nice soak in the beautiful tub before bed. Phil and Kathy are great cooks, and the just the nicest people with lots of good suggestions for things to do. Thank you for a wonderful, relaxing get away!

My husband and I stayed here during a weekend getaway to celebrate our 26th wedding anniversary. We have stayed at quite a few B&B's, and we have enjoyed all of them, but the Quiet Walker Lodge has by far been our favorite so far! The property is absolutely beautiful! Quiet, remote, and surrounded by nature, we really enjoyed the scenery and want to visit again when the weather is nicer. Our room was clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed the whirlpool tub that was in our room. The innkeepers, Phill and Kathy, were wonderful! They immediately made us feel at home and we really enjoyed visiting with them in the mornings during breakfast. Speaking of breakfast: the food was FANTASTIC! I eat a vegan diet, but this was no problem. Phill and Kathy went out of their way to make sure that I had plenty to eat, from cookies to baked apples and poached pears, to a tofu omelet and vegan pancakes. YUM! The lodge is conveniently located just a short drive away from Dubuque, so there was plenty to do and see. If you're in the Dubuque area, I would definitely recommend staying at the Quiet Walker Lodge!

Stayed November 2014, traveled with friends

If you are looking for lodging that offers tranquility, beauty, camaraderie and romance, then you owe it to yourself to check out the Quiet Walker Lodge. The owners and inn keepers are so friendly that you immediately feel a part of it all. The rooms are unique; most offer hot tubs for relaxing or romancing. The property offers bonfires, horseshoes, hiking opportunities, wildlife, and the natural beauty of northeast Iowa. There are two lodges, one of which is a gorgeous log home with great architectural elements. I have stayed in many, many bed and breakfast facilities but this was the class of the show! I can't wait to return, this time with several friends, and enjoy the experience all over again.

Concierge level of service at a B&B is outstanding. We were greeted by the Innkeepers as soon as we got out of our car, and were given a tour of the grounds and shown our room. We stayed in the room called the "Secret Garden", which was so peaceful and relaxing, and had several unique features. The food served at breakfast was excellent, and the portion sizes were wonderful, and if you wanted more it was readily available. The hospitality shown by both the owners and the innkeepers was exceptional. We are AAA members, and we have traveled and stayed in a variety of B&B's all over the country, and this is definitely in the upper echelon of any place of this type we have ever stayed in. Highly recommend. We will go back next year. Awesome!

April 2014 “We Appreciated Your Hospitality”

I just wanted to tell you how much we appreciated your hospitality. We had an Amazing weekend. The lodge is so beautiful and Phil and Kathy made us feel welcome and comfortable. Kathy's fantastic cookies were certainly our favorite feature of the room. It was just one of the little touches that made us feel at home. Chef Phil is a wiz in the kitchen, his baked apples were beautiful and delicious, not to mention my personal favorite. On the second day we were wowed by his innovative eggs benedict served with REAL Maple Syrup!!! (I will never go back to the "other" stuff). A perfect start to a day of Hiking. Whitewater Canyon was so beautiful and surprising. We can't wait to come back. Thank you Mark and Jodi

March 2014 “Excellent week at the QWL”

An extremely beautiful facility! My wife and I were in severe need of getting away from our busy schedules. After much searching we settled on QWL. We are so happy we did. We were warmly greeted by John and Deb upon arrival. They made our week there an overall amazing stay. We enjoyed their conversation and by far the best breakfasts we have had. Great cooks! They also gave us ideas on things to see and places to eat. Any B&B would be a hit with John and Deb looking after the guests. That coupled with the beauty of the area, the lodge, and the wildlife just outside your window made this stay more than we had hoped or imagined. The room, Bella Vita, was cozy and so nice to retire to each night. We spent a lot of time in front of the fireplace in the main lodge. Just awesome! Stayed March 2014, traveled as a couple. “A quiet, comfortable place to celebrate life”

5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013 My review is overdue, but I must commend this place for being so accomodating to my wife and I when we celebrated our honeymoon there. Because of a farming schedule that couldn't be changed, we were three days late to arrive at this B&B. I had chosen this place because it was in the country, I'd read that it was quiet, but yet it was close to Dubuque so we could enjoy the restaurants and tourist spots there. It was also close enough to a bike trail that we could drive there and bike for the day. The inn master was gracious enough to allow us to stay on different nights, and gave us a gift certificate to use for the additional night's stay that I had purchased but was unable to use that week because of the change in our schedule. The breakfast was excellent, scenery absolutely breathtaking driving in on Highway 3 and also on the gravel road leading to the lodge. the room was clean and comfortable. We recently took our two daughters and their significant others to Dubuque for a family celebration and stayed at the Quiet Walker Lodge. We stayed in three of their beautiful theme suites and enjoyed them to the max. The place is beautiful inside and outside. The breakfast was made to order and the owner was very accommodating. I wish we could have stayed an extra night, but we will definetely find our way back again some day. I highly recommend that you try it if you are in the Dubuque area. Kim B "

My husband and I have stayed at many bed and breakfasts. So far and this one beats them all. Our room was so nice and cozy and the view was wonderful. I love the fall colors and the breakfast was awesome. Carol was so nice and I can't wait to go back and stay there again. This was a very romantic place. Our room was the Bella Vita and we just loved it.

I was very pleasantly surprised. I found the listing for this and it looked like a very romantic place. Planned the weekend as a total suprise for my husband for our anniversary. It was a great get away and I loved the personal service and touches. It was our first B&B experience and we definitely will do it again.

The Quiet Walker Lodge was the best idea we ever had! When we arrived, Carol came outside and greeted us. She showed us to our room. We stayed in Bella Vita. The refrigerator was stocked with a couple of sodas, some waters, some cheese, and a package of crackers. On top of the microwave, there was a tray with the crackers and two types of corkscrews, the type of thing you always forget to bring when you have a bottle of wine! We slept well the first night. The next morning we were served a delicious quiche, croissants,. fresh fruit, bread, coffee, and juice. A well need start to the day."
